At the end of spring training, the Nationals were debating whether to cut Scott Olsen and save themselves $750,000 or send him to the minors. They decided on the latter, believing that at some point this season, Olsen could help them.

That time came sooner than they would have ever expected, when Garrett Mock’s struggles forced Olsen into the rotation a week into the season. And for all but one start, Olsen has been brilliant—never more so than he was Thursday.

Olsen took a no-hitter into the eighth inning, striking out eight in the Nationals’ 3-2 win over the Braves and extending his scoreless streak to 20 1/3 innings before Atlanta rallied for two in the eighth.
