In a fast paced game, the Washington Nationals beat the New York Mets 1-0.  Now that is what I call a pitching duel.  Jason Bergmann and Mike Pelfrey both pitched great, but the Nationals were able to get a run in the eighth inning to get the 1-0 win.

Bergmann pitched seven innings to pick up the win.  Bergmann now has a 1-1 record on the season.  Luis Ayala and Jon Rauch pitched the eighth and ninth innings for the Nationals.  Rauch picked up his ninth save of the season as he stranded a Mets runner on third base to end the game.

The lone run that came in the eighth inning for the Nationals came on a sacrafice fly by Felipe LopezJesus Flores scored on the sac fly.

Wil Nieves had two RBI to lead the Nationals in the game at the plate.

Odalis Perez pitched seven innings and only gave up three hits and two runs.  Perez had a much better outing then his last outing when he was roughed up pretty bad.  Luis Ayala pitched the eighth inning to pick up the win and Jon Rauch picked up the save in the ninth inning.  Ayala’s win was his first win of the season and Rauch’s save was his sixth.

The Washington Nationals doubled up the New York Mets on Thursday night as the Nationals beat the Mets 10-5.  The Nationals really needed this win as they need to get back on track and go on a nice winning streak.

Shawn Hill started the game for the Nationals and pitched five innings.  He did allow three runs on six hits in the no decision.  Mike O’Connor pitched the sixth inning to record the win for the Nationals.  Saul Rivera and Jon Rauch both gave up a run in the game.

Felipe Lopez powered the Nationals at the plate as he hit a grand slam in the sixth inning.  Lopez finished with six RBI in the game.  Cristian Guzman, Ryan Zimmerman, Wil Nieves, and Johnny Estrada all had one RBI in the game.  A lot of production for the Nationals which is something they need to happen more often.

The Washington Nationals tried coming back in the bottom of the 9th inning against the Florida Marlins but they came up just short as they lost the game by the score of 4-3.  Another close game for the Nationals where they were on the wrong side of the outcome.

Starting pitcher Odalis Perez picked up the loss as he is now 0-2 on the season.  Perez lasted 5.2 innings as he gave up six hits and two earned runs.  Luis Ayala and Jon Rauch both gave up a earned run each in relief.

Nick Johnson, Ronny Belliard, and Johnny Estrada all had one RBI each for the Nationals.

The Washington Nationals just can’t catch a break right now as they dropped their fifth straight game after starting the season 3-0.  The Nationals had their chances with the bases loaded a couple of times, but couldn’t push across any runs when they needed to against the Florida Marlins as the Marlins won 10-7.

Starting pitcher Tim Redding picked up the loss.  Redding lasted four innings while giving up seven hits and seven runs.  Only one of the runs was earned however.  Errors really hurt Redding and the Nationals on Monday night.

Chris Schroder, Luis Ayala, and Jon Rauch also all allowed runs to cross the plate for the Marlins.

Christian Guzman and Lastings Milledge each had three RBI’s for that Nationals and Felipe Lopez contributed with one RBI.  You would think you would win the ballgame by scoring seven runs, but not when your pitching and defense sucks…

The Washington Nationals broke in the new ballpark with an exciting win as Ryan Zimmerman hit a walkoff homerun to give the Nationals the 3-2 victory over the Atlanta Braves.

Nick Johnson got the team off to a good start in the first inning as he doubled in Christian GuzmanAustin Kearns then singled to right field that scored Johnson.  Those were the only two runs the Nationals got until Zimmerman ended the game with two outs in the ninth inning.

Jon Rauch picked up the win for the Nationals.  Odalis Perez was the starting pitcher and lasted five innings, giving up four hits and one earned run.  He did serve up a gopher ball to Chipper Jones, that was pretty much his only mistake of the ballgame.

The Nationals will now take on the Philadelphia Phillies as they try to move to 2-0 on the 2008 season.
