What an up and down game for the Washington Nationals as they tied the game in the eighth inning and then went onto lose by two runs to the Philadelphia Phillies. Just another way to lose the game for the Nationals who seem to come up with a new way everyday.

Joel Hanrahan gave up both runs in the ninth inning that allowed the Phillies to win the game. Matt Stairs had a rbi double for the first run and then Chase Utley hit a rbi sac fly to add an insurance run. Odalis Perez was the starting pitcher but he only lated five innings as he gave up four hits and three runs. Perez did give up one home run as well. Marco Estrada was terrible out of the bullpen as he didn’t record an out and gave up three his and two runs.

Cristian Guzman tied the game in the eighth inning when he his a bases loaded clearing double. He led the team with three rbi on the night. Ryan Zimmerman had a solo home run and a rbi double in the game to finish right behind Guzman with two rbi. Lastings Milledge, Elijah Dukes, and Kory Casto finished up the scoreing with one rbi each.

Just another loss for the Nationals, I’m sure there will be plenty left over the next three to four weeks.

Tim Redding and the Washington Nationals beat up on Greg Maddux and the Los Angeles Dodgers Wednesday night. It was the second night in a row that the Nationals beat the Dodgers and now they will be going for the sweep on Thursday. The 5-4 victory over the Dodgers improved the Nationals record to 48-85 on the season.

Redding was good as he pitched six innings. He allowed eight hits and three runs in the game while improving to 9-8 on the year. All three runs that Redding gave up were solo home runs. He did get lucky that they were all solo shots that is for sure. Saul Rivera gave up one run and then Joel Hanrahan pitched 1 1/3 innings to get his sixth save of the season.

Ryan Zimmerman had a solo home run for the Nationals as he was the only Nats player to go deep in the game. Lastings Milledge, Ronnie Belliard, and Jesus Flores all added rbi’s as well in the game for the Nationals.

The Washington Nationals lost to the Philadelpha Phillies on Wednesday night by the score of 8-5. The Nationals gave up five runs in the fifth inning and then was not able to come back and get back into the game. This was one of those games that Nationals could have won but made a couple of mistakes that really cost them.

Tim Redding was hammered for ten hits and seven runs as the took the loss. Redding lasted just four innings in the game as he has a very bad outing. Steven Shell pitched the next three innnings and allowed one more run to score. Luis Ayala and Jesus Colome finished things up on the mound in the eighth and ninth innings.

On the mound for the Nationals, Willie Harris and Jesus Flores both hit home runs. Flores finished the game with two rbi while Harris, Lastings Milledge, and Ryan Zimmerman all finished with one rbi each.

I should let everyone know that I will be out of town until August 12th and will not be able to update the blog until I get back. If there is a Nationals fan out there that reads the blog and wants to try doing some game recaps please use the contact us link at the top and send me a email.

Thanks – Cliff

Jesus Flores hit a rbi single to right center field in the bottom of the ninth inning and Elijah Dukes scored the winning run as the Washington Nationals beat the Los Angeles Angels by the score of 5-4. The Nationals avoided a three game sweet by the Angels with the victory on Wednesday night.

Lastings Milledge led the Nationals at the plate with two rbi. Both of Milledge’s rbi’s came in the first inning when he connected on a two run home run. Ronnie Belliard walked with the bases loaded in the sixth inning to record one rbi and then Wily Mo Pena singled in the sixth inning to score another run and pick up a rbi.

Jon Rauch ended up picking up the victory for the Nationals as he pitched the final 1 2/3 innings of the game. Rauch is now 4-1 on the season. Even though Rauch picked up the win, he gave up the tying run in the top of the ninth inning so he actually received a blown save as well.

Nationals starting pitcher Tim Redding gave up seven hits and two runs over six innings of action to get a no decision in the game. Saul Rivera pitched a scoreless inning of relief before Luis Ayala gave up two hits and two runs. It seemed like the pitching staff just wanted to give this game away and they were lucky to come away with the win.

Are you a Nationals fan that watches or listens to most of the game? Familar with box scores and game recaps? Nationalshomeplate is currently looking for a new contibuter that can blog about the Nats and do some game recaps as well. If you are interested please contact us by leaving a commend or using the contact us link on the site and we will get back to you!

The Washington Nationals lost 3-2 to the San Francisco Giants on Monday night and with the loss they were swept in the four game series at home. Now that is what I call a very dissapointing series as the Nats lost all four games against a medicore team. It was the Nationals seventh straight loss as well.

Tyler Clippard took the loss after throwing 4 1/3 innings and giving up five hits and three runs. He was a bit wild as he had three walks in the game. Clippard gave up two rbi singles to Randy Winn and a rbi double to Bengie Molina in the game.

Brian Sanches, Jesus Colome, Charlie Manning, and Luis Ayala all seen action out of the bullpen and all did a pretty good job. They did not allow the Giants to score another run, and that is about all you can ask for out of your bullpen.

Jesus Flores had sac fly in the fourth inning that scored Lastings Milledge. That was the only recorded rbi in the game for the Nationals. Milledge did score an unearned run in the eighth inning on error by Giants catcher Molina.

The Washington Nationals powered past the San Diego Padres on Wednesday night by the score of 6-4. The Nationals hit a grand slam, solo home run, and sacrafice fly to score their six runs as they even up the three game series one game each.

Jesus Flores got the scoring started in the fourth inning when he hit a grand slam off of Shawn Estes. Flores led the Nationals with the four rbi in the game. Lastings Milledge hit a solo home run in the sixth inning and then Aaron Boone had a sacrafice fly in the seventh inning to finish the Nationals scoring.

Odalis Perez pitched 6 1/3 innings while picking up his second victory of the season. Perez gave up six hits and three runs to improve his record to 2-4. Brian Sanches came in after Perez left the game and gave up two hits and a run without even record an out. Luis Ayala got out of that mess and pitched the next inning as well without giving up a run before turning things over to Jon Rauch who recorded his 11th save of the season.

The Nationals will try to win the series as the two teams face off again on Thursday afternoon.

The Washington Nationals beat up on the New York Mets on Monday night by the score of 10-4. The Nationals scored in every inning except for three as they kept pressure on the Mets pitchers the entire night.

Odalis Perez threw 6 1/3 innings to pick up his first win and improve his record to 1-3 on the season. Perez did allow eleven hits and four runs including two home runs but this time he got some run support on the mound.

Chris Schroder and Saul Rivera both tossed 1 1/3 innings in the game as they pitched in relief and they did not give up a run.

Lastings Milledge, Jesus Flores, Perez all had two rbi each in the game. Felipe Perez, Nick Johnson, and Rob Mackowiak had one rbi each in the game. Now that is what I call production up and down the lineup. You gotta love seeing that kind of production from that many players.

The Washington Nationals lost to the Atlatna Braves in Atlanta on Monday by the score of 7-3 putting the Nationals at 5-15 for the season. Quickly falling behind in the season standings, the Nationals have a lot of work to do to get their team back into shape and I just don’t see it happening.

Cristian Guzman, Felipe Lopez, and Willie Harris all recorded doubles yesterday against the Braves. Harris, Lastings Milledge, and Aaron Boone all picked up a RBI in Monday’s game as well.

Matt Chico was the opening pitcher for the Nationals and pitched for four innings allowing eight hits, six runs, and walked three. This loss puts him at 0-4 for the year. Joel Hanrahan, Jesus Colome, and Chad Cordero were brought in to pitch the last three innings giving up a combined five hits and one run between the three of them. (Hanrahan was the pitcher to give up the run).

The Washington Nationals will stay in Atlanta for one more game against the Braves tonight then will travel back home to face the New York Mets.
